WATER TESTING
One of the most valuable services that Union Aquarium provides for its customers is FREE water testing.
Our knowledgeable staff will test your aquarium water for pH levels, contaminants and other factors, and determine its impact on your fish and suggest methods you can take to improve your water quality, if necessary.
Testing of your aquarium water is essential during the first 6 - 8 weeks after an aquarium is first set up. This is because the beneficial bacteria required to breakdown toxic waste within the aquarium are not present in sufficient numbers to render the toxins harmless. This can result in fish becoming ill and dying as waste burns their gills and inhibits their ability to breathe. It can also cause fish to shed their protective body slime, making them susceptible to attack from bacteria and parasites. With proper water testing, we can help determine what steps — if any — are necessary to help ensure the health and well-being of your fish.
